Read Only During Working Hours!

The law says so.

Hey Besties! (Please only read this during your working hours, we don’t want to get fined!).

In this episode, we get personal - more than we normally get in our staff meetings. It’s a good thing HR always has Kleenex handy.

In this week’s episode…

  • Intro Story: This week starts with a slippery slope: mandatory Bible study at work (and no, it was not a religious institution). While we wholeheartedly support religious accommodations, but making them required changes the game for everyone - Leigh shares how she handled it.

  • Corporate Cringe Speak: Why say “Stay in your lane,” when you could simply encourage collaboration and respect (probably because that’s not what leaders are looking for when they say it).

  • Right to Disconnect Laws: In our hyper-connected world, the line between work and personal time often blurs. From France to Canada, different countries are implementing laws to ensure employees can truly switch off after work hours. Is the U.S. next? (A California would like to say “yes”!)

  • Questions & Comments: We get personal - from recounting vacation memories we regret (Jamie and Ashley share very relatable memories), to Leigh sharing one of her red flags (which Ashley realizes she unintentionally crossed with her – and won’t again).

Discussion Guide for Your Team (Questions for your team meeting or podcast discussion club):

  • Mandatory Practices: How do you handle personal beliefs and practices in a diverse workplace? What policies can ensure inclusivity without compulsion?

  • Right to Disconnect: Do teams talk about work-life boundaries? How do you decide when to send communications (and what is a real emergency for your workplace)?

  • Team Red Flags: Do team members feel comfortable sharing their green and red flags at work? How do you address them constructively?
