Imposter Syndrome

And Leigh's story of "Old Red"

Hey Besties!

Happy Wednesday! We loved taking a week off last week to recharge, but we’re truly happy to be back. Not gonna lie, we all did little happy dances hearing our theme music hit the speakers.

This week’s episode was the last one we recorded in San Antonio (recorded at Chatterbox Studio, in between visits to Boss Bagel, La Panadería Feliz Modern shop and The Pearl Farmer’s Market). But you won’t have to wait for more - we’ll keep new episodes coming every Wednesday and Friday. Keep reading to hear what you can expect in next week’s episode.

But first, in today’s episode:

  • Intro Story: Leigh’s story about “Old Red” (we could tell you why he’s called that, but we prefer not to get flagged by your IT department for indecency, so just listen to hear Leigh tell you)

  • Corporate Cringe Speak: The layoff term that feels especially wrong (don’t try to put lipstick on this pig).

  • Hot Topic - Imposter Syndrome: Why TF do we feel it, and what can we do about it?! (including an exercise you can do with your teams).

  • Questions & Comments: Words of encouragement to each other when we’re feeling imposter-y (I’m not crying- wait, yes, I am).

Discussion Guide - Your weekly podcast club or team meeting questions:

  • Layoff “Lingo”: Have you ever heard a term for layoffs that made the experience even more difficult for those affected? On the flip side, what approaches or language have you seen that genuinely helps colleagues feel supported during those tough times?

  • Imposter Syndrome: Have you ever worried about what others think about you, and then gotten frustrated at yourself for worrying about that? What strategies have you found effective in managing or overcoming feelings of being an imposter at work? Do you have any tips or stories about how you've built confidence in your role?

  • What You See in Others: How do we recognize others at work? How can we help others see the value in doing so?

Tune in and use these questions for your team discussions. And, since we promised we’d tell you about next week’s episode, next Wednesday you can expect a special episode including some highlights and outtakes you won’t want to miss!

As always, we love hearing from HR Besties!
